Who says Cheerleading isn't a sport?

Many people stereotype cheerleaders as just girls who hold pom poms and do little cheers,

some even think that guys who join cheerleading are homosexuals or gays,

but all these are not true at all.

Cheerleading is a sport and cheerleaders are athletes who do stunts, tumbling & cheering.
All these involve strength, flexibility, conditioning, endurance and stamina.
They go through many days/months & hours of training,
sweat, dedication, tears & heart just to piece out a 1-3min routine.
Also it contains a certain danger as injuries may happen for a stunt.
Here is a video from Sports Science comparing cheerleading and other sports

so the bottom line is,
cheerleaders be proud as a cheerleader and cheer while you still can.
Genesis let's work hard together as a team and train up for nationals next year :)

5 more trainings before performance

Hey Genesis,

We have 5 more trainings to performance on 2nd July. I know it's very quick, tough and tiring for some of you, but JIAYOU!! We can do it !!

Here are some things you people should do :

Attend every single training
Listen to Vincent's instructions properly
Memorize the steps, stunts and timings
Ask if there's any question or query, don't wait for us to tell you
Put in your 200% effort in every training
Go to the gym and workout (min 1hours 3times a week)
Do self PTs at home/outside
If you're sick, try to come down & watch so that you won't miss out anything
If you really can't come down, ask what the team did last training and catch up
Take every training seriously, when it's time to be serious, be serious
Teamwork place a very important part
Safety on mats, when a flyer is falling, don't just stand there & look, catch her

i think that's all for what we should do.

As a chinese saying goes :

"台上三分钟，台下十年功" "3minutes glory on stage, 10years hard work off the stage"

but this doesn't means that we have to work hard for 10years to perform on stage.

Those cheerleaders from Bangkok University, University of Hawaii, University of Kentucky don't just became so good in cheerleading, it's the hard work they put in, the amount of trainings, Gym workout, PTs they do, the injuries, sweat and tears they went through, practicing over and over again through the years to achieve what they are and where they stand now.

Let's give a very simple example,

Our Captain, Amirah, don't get her flexibility just like that. She stretched almost everyday, slowly bit by bit and never give up. You can ask her how much pain, tears and stretching she been through. Now as you all can see she's very flexible, but she's still continuing to work hard and push on further.

If you fail, DO NOT give up. Instead, try hard next time, think of what you do wrong in, correct your mistakes and DO NOT make the same mistakes again.

Most people always say they do not have the time to workout in the gym, do self PT, i don't agree to it.

It's just the 1hour - 2hour you minus out from all your gaming, facebook, twitter etc etc and do it seriously.

I hope all these will help you all, not just only our Genesis Cheerleaders as well as other cheerleaders in Singapore.

Hey cheerleaders, it's time for us to expedite our training. As by now everyone should know we are way behind time for the upcoming performances. I can foresee all the up coming training gonna be bumpy, hard, tiring and definitely a whole lot of mental pressure but with perseverance and commitment from everyone I'm confident Genesis be able to pull it off in one way or another.
Maybe by then if we are able to come up with something simple but mind blowing we could try to arrange do road shows at other ITE campus. Personally i think it's one way for us to recruit more cheerleaders. =)

On random note here's something for you guys Quote from the "ns daze" movie: people out there are paying expensive fees just to get their slim bodies, but here we are giving you for free :p. I'll be doing additional PT's on my own during non training days so that we can minimise PT's during training, for those who are interested to join give me a ring or drop me a text aite =D For those who don't have my number, please ask from fly or myself during training.
Train hard and rest well everyone.

P.S I don't know why you don't have my number by now, coz i'm the hottest guy in genesis. hahahahahaha

Hey my beloved siblings, I'm proud for all of us as no one complain during the PT's today. Good job everyone *perhaps I can increase the intensity of the PT* hehehe.

For the april intake cheerleaders good job for those who have improved and let's hope you guys/girls can keep on improving and join the seniors for additional training. For those who are still trying no worries you can get all the help you need from all the seniors and coach. With hardwork and commitment I'm confident enough that you guys will be improving as well. The least thing I want from all of you is to give up or simply can't be bothered. If the rest of the team mate and myself is not giving up on you, I don't see the reason why you should =). BUT that doesn't mean you can ignore the basic so as just to get the stunts up. No one expect a perfect stunts on the first few tries of trying. For those that been doing for a month now, and still not improving it's time to do some self reflection and ask yourself why. For whatever the reasons may be the team is always here for each other. Lastly let's push ourselves and move towards a better and stronger team. Stay healthy everyone. =D

Mental Strength

Hi Genesis,
I understand training had been toughen up and some of us could barely catch up with the training. As much as I wanna refer to our individual fitness level, but i think the weakest link here is our mental strength. This can't be toughen up or strengthen up by visiting gym nor doing PT. This can only be overcome if all of us able to do, move and think like a team and not individually. Instead of giving up why don't you take it as a challenge and motivate to improve on yourself. If others can do it why can't you? Again it all boils down to discipline and how MUCH you want it. No one is perfect and everyone inclusive myself in genesis are still learning, so don't demoralise for no apparent reason but instead push and catch up with the rest of the team. For every man left behind the team is nothing but just a structure of brick w/o any cement to secure and firm it. Don't just train hard but train smart. Let's make genesis the place worth of your 2 years training experience.

Demoralization

If somehow you feel demoralized, follow this guidelines, it'll be good.

1.Maintain a positive attitude

You may have done something wrong, ken may have scolded you for doing it wrongly, you may have done it umpteen times but still got it wrong. but maintaining a "POSITIVE ATTITUDE" for learning will enables you to overcome all the emotional turmoil you might or will go or going through after each or previous scolding. What good will it do? you will stay remain focus and not affected or i would say maybe only abit affected by it and thus will enhance your learning ability and eliminate emotional barriers which will hinder you.

2.Statements of admiration (Encouragements)

simply speaking, words of encouragement, it may not be the best of a elevator pop you have done, or anything or maybe you did it worse. but what keeps one going is knowing that the people surrounding them are not giving up and simple things like "let's go again!", "it's ok, you will get it, dont give up" will work wonders in people's lives and it's proven to push one limits to a higher level because i personally experience it.

SO PEOPLE DONT GIVE UP!

Just want to say.
Everything is simple and even now.
Things may be looking bad because I donno why.
It's easy to solve, not complicated.
Putting competition aside.
because I never think of training for the competition, I want to train for Cheerleading
"TO CHEER OR NOT TO CHEER?"
Easy right? Lol.

For people who want to cheer:
1. Discipline (punctuality, diet etc)
2. Physical fitness (gym, run, etc)
3. Whatever you can think of what has always been reminded and repeated repetitively.
We're going for a COMPETITION, so we should be training hard and COMPETITIVELY, Agreed?

For people who don't want to cheer:
1. Ask yourself why?
2. Talk to the team.
3. Reignite your passion to cheer.
4. If really cannot be helped, then we think for other solutions.
5. Don't want talk or do anything about it? Then how? cause everyone wants to help so don't give up on yourself.

That's just how I feel and what I'll do as a member of the team.

I guess no one has read my blog from the link that coach posted on the previous post.
So I'm going to write down the many many points that I've listed. Hahahahahaha!

To those who have read about it, what're your point of view? What have you reflect?

Though is a personal thinking but I'm standing at the point of everyone and being in the shoes of everyone. To believe me or not, its actually up to you. Cause I believe that most of them will put as much effort as they could to prove things wrong. Its a team and I feel as a team. But right now, I'm feeling disheartening. A disappointment that I could actually describe my feeling. Be it myself or the team. We're just a disappointment to our coaches.

To think back, this had been going on for months. And till now, things have never changed. People might feel the same as me but to those who are not, I'm sorry. Its the mentality that works. I think partly is right, what we're thinking affect the way of learning.

HOW TO BE A GOOD LEARNER?

People learn in different ways and no one has a better learning style than anyone else. Now I've 3 types of learning:
1. Listening learners
2. See-ing learners
3. Touch/ experience learners

It's really simple. Think about one of life's earliest lesson that often taught by our mothers; "The Stove Can Burn You."
1. Listening learners listened to their mother, believed information and never touched a stove.
2. See-ing learners watched their siblings touch the stove and never touched it.
3. Experience learners touched the stove but only ONCE!

So for an example:
1. Listen to the coaches, believed information and never make them repeat again.
2. Watched the others making mistakes and never followed them by making the same mistakes.
3. Make a mistake, but that only happen ONCE!
Does it make any senses? Pardon me if I don't.

So what can I say right now? Cause nothing could change for the better. Nothing could help to bring the so called moral up. People come training as and when they like, think about themselves and not for the team. This is not an individual work, we need everyone's cooperation so that we can make a good team and perform with a better attitude.
It had been 8 months. PATHETIC 8 MONTHS!!! Right from the start till now, who are the one improving/ show at least some improvement? Who has been the one that willing to take the hard work not matter how tiring it is? Who are the one that still living in the zone of comfort? Who has already get out from the zone of comfort? Who are the one that gym hard? Who are the one that sacrifice the most? Who are the one that put in effort? There's more for me to jot it down but I think its time to start asking yourself and think about it.

If you don't want to go on the hard way and continue stay in the zone of comfort but want to improve more than the others, I can tell you that its IMPOSSIBLE. Stop day dreaming!

This is not the 1st time that issue has been brought up but numbers of time. "Its whether you WILLING to change for the other/yourself/the team/coaches or you wanna stay SELFISH and bring everyone down." Think about it. I'm not trying to be proud of myself saying so much down here or what ever that don't sounds nice to me but after all, I'm trying to change the way. To change how the coaches think of us, to change how we can actually improve everything. I know action speaks louder than words but who will understand how I'm feeling before I'm trying to solve the issues? Am I right?

Sometimes hearing the same things over and over again don't help much at all but a feeling of demoralized. And why are we wasting the coaches's saliva when we simply don't listen? When we don't change for the better? When we're not doing what we are supposed to do? Have you wonder why are the coaches are being harsh to us? The very SIMPLE reason was they just wanna see improvement day by day and not just disappointment. Who want their own hard work to goes down the drain? I think even the dumbest person in the world will know it too.

By standing at the coaches point of view as well, I know EXPECTATION is what they want from us too. They wanna see more, not just a bit. All they want is to see us being consistent at all time. But look what we have gave them? Human falling down from the stunts? It shows that we've yet to meet up the expectation of theirs. I can't deny that the girls can't do their heel stretch, scorpion, bow & arrow etc. I can't deny that the guys are yet to toss the girls to hand. But right now, I can't promise that we will be doing it in the faster time, but as long as we're still cheering, we will definitely put in the effort to. Be it, a month or more. We will make the effort to prove things wrong.

Well, I may not be any of the committee, or just only the heaviest girl to everyone but I just want everyone to change the little bit of habits, unhealthy way of learning.
Don't take the coaches's nasty work too hard, cos its their job to do so. And our job to do is to make them proud and listen to their instruction. FOLLOW IT! OBEY IT!
EXAMPLE: 1) When instructions are given, stop hesitating/ stop slacking and just FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION. 2) Stop taking your own sweet time and tape your wrist, drinking and talking. Why not use the extra time to train more and learn more. 3)Stop saying you can't do this and that. If so, sorry you are not in the good condition to train with the rest. Don't bring the others down together with you. Is a team not about yourself. 4) Its good to be angry with yourself if you did not hit the stunt but please do not angry with other when you did not hit the stunt. They're not your vent control machine. There's still many more but I can't think of right now. These are the every single things that the coaches have brought up to us and I'm here repeating myself and hope it helps. I know I might be talking nonsense here, acting like some haolian. Who am I talking so much but think of it, if we can avoid all these, do you think the coaches will wanna give up on us? Its time to start think before its tooo late and thats all I can say. I know everyone doesn't want the coaches to give up as well.

EVERYONE PLAYS A PART AS A CHEERLEADERS! HAVE YOU PLAY YOURS WELL?
What are your role to play? Do you think that your role is healthy or harmful? Do you think you have done most of the things mention above? Last but not least, have you start thinking and reflection all this while? If so, why are this issues not yet solved?
THINK ABOUT IT.

Please start to feel as a team. Feel for each other, smile for each other, encourage for each other, motivate for each other, help each other and love each other. Bonding is the most suitable word for a team. Don't bear grudges if you've any.

I hope it helps everyone to think and reflect on how I'm feeling towards the team, the coaches and myself. What I can do for the team is to put in my best to do what I can, encourage and motivate everyone. If possible, I won't want to let them feel demoralized and stay positive. But if that is the case, am I helping them or harming them?

To those who think I'm strong and happy-go-lucky on the mats, you're WRONG. But of course, I won't let it affect what I'm doing. So please jiayou......... And continue to let the coaches have faith in us.

Please don't read for the sake of reading.
Read and think through. I might not be right but at least I think for the rest.

Greetings folks,

Have you guys ever wondered why some people are just better than others?

If you have, good for you. If you haven't, it means you're too comfortable with your current situation.

I'll tell you my understanding on this.

First, they are talented. What takes normal being 1 week may take them only 3 days to learn.
Secondly, they are more hardworking. They train 6 days a week while the others trains 3.

Conclusion is, it's either you're talented or you're hardworking.

If you're not talented, please put in the extra effort to be on par with the others.
If you're talented, good for you, but please do not be complacent.

Would you like to be injured because of someone's incapability?
Would you like to be injured because of your own incapability?
OR
Would you prefer to save someone from getting injured due to your capability?
Would you prefer to prevent yourself from getting injured due to your capability?

Choose to be selfless to yourself and others.

I believe, people who bothers to read this means that they care about the team and is willing to make a change. Don't doubt. You can make a change in the team.

Throw in determination, perseverance, patience and lots of love in everything you do.

Hello everyone! Just thought I'd share the debriefs from last Friday's and today's training. ((:

1 oct 2010 Friday
Our coaches reminded us to work on our strengths. We can do this by heading to the gym on days when we don't have training.

Guys should train their shoulders, abs, legs, back and chest.
Squats, deadlifts and bench press would help. :D
Also , we need more blast powers from you guys.

For girls, we should train our abs and do jumps. Invest in a skipping rope and start jumping. :D Don't forget to do situps as well..

Flyers, trust your bases and no bending of knees. Don't open your leg so big also. haha!
Pelvis more. This requires your lower back muscle.
Flyers should build up thier core muscles and NO JUNK FOOD.
Don't forget to gym. (:

and... REMEMBER TO COME FOR PT DAY! :D

Today, we did Elevator Pop, B-toss, Pyramid and Gladiator.

Elevator Pop: Flyers, remember these three words.. Pull, Pelvis and Cradle. ((:

B-toss: Flyers discipline yourself by locking tight because when we lock tight, we can still save the stunts. :D
Bases, we need more burst power.. more blast from you guys. Meaning more strength which means more gym sessions. Squats would be good.

Hi all.

Anyway, as you know that you guys need to hand in the proficiency checklist on Friday, 3rd September. So, people like me, Chloe and Kar will visit the gym tomorrow to get our checklist fill up/done. Hey Team Genesis!!

It's FIQAH in da HOUSE y'all!!!

Anyway... I thought that yesterday (23rd Aug 2010) would be my very first performance with some of you guys. But... Sometimes we can't predict the weather and blame it. I was super nervous two days before the performance. When the day comes, I told myself to be cool and not to over-react.

So on the 23rd aug, I was excited and nervous. In the end, that opportunity for me is gone. I wasn't nervous and excited but I was feeling very sad and not in the mood.

The next day, which is today (24th aug), I heard that Team B (Clement, Dyka, Aysha, Kiki, Aliyyah, Gregory, Hambali, Siddique, Jason, Baoling, Ain, Aloysius, Nana, Danny & myself) would be performing. I got nervous again and I was happy that I finally get to perform with them even though it's not our full team! At least I get to enjoy myself with my team-mates aka Family.

Same goes to Nana, it's her first time too and I think that we did great, so is the team too (I won't leave you guys out). Even though there is one stunt was not up due to injury, I understand the situation but we still rock the house!!

But... since a number of you are leaving, I can't say much but, we welcome you back with our open arms. :D

Before you guys leave, I would like to say that I am thankful that I got to perform to those who are leaving (some from Team B). I hope you guys come back and see us!! :DD

August shall be the month of our breakthrough!

We had our second performance, or rather, first on stage performance. More to come! Be prepared and welcome all of them with a big smile!

Remember to put down everything and cast all differences aside. Just try and love all members of Genesis, of course, I myself will try too.

We will and we must see things in Genesis change for the good alright? Let us all put in that little bit to make the vast difference!

The more we get together, together, together, the more we get together, the happier we'll be.

It's good to be individually brilliant and to have strong core competencies; but unless you're able to work in a team and harness each others' core competencies, you'll always perform below par because there will always be situations at which you'll do poorly and someone else does well.

I'm gonna quote a sentence from a famous book.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"

I'm gonna stop here and let you guys have allowance for thoughts. Spend about a minute and ponder over.

We're all learning to be better; no doubt it takes time, but as long as we're improving, no matter how insignificant, it's still an achievement.

Hello Genesis,

First of all, I'd like to thank KH for this blog. Yes he's always the devil during training, some of us hate him I know. *laughs* Something we can't deny him of is his contributions. The routine song, sheet and this blog were all from him. It's not within his responsibilities but yet he still did it out of love(?) for us.

Here goes, I've noticed that the Gen-Camp-10 really brought a lot of us closer to each other. I've seen a significant growth in regards to the team's bonding. It's all good! Keep it up! * There was a time, when people say that Genesis won't make it, but we did, but we did! * Referring to *ask me and I'll tell you* So guys, buck up and do not let people look down on us! I'm sure if we hang it there together, do it together, we can always be as successful as our Champion Coaches.

Enough talk about the team, let me go into our own personal responsibilities.

I think, most of us are 18 and above, or reaching 18 soon. Being a young adult, there are certain things that we must be responsible for. No more crying to mummy or daddy when you make a mess of something. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure.

Self-Discipline

This includes, but not limited to, taking care of what you eat and what you do in and out of mats. For those who are, I'd say somewhat overweight, please do your running and control your diet.
For those who are always impunctual please do something about it. It all boils down to self-discipline. If you know you need to meet at a certain time early in the morning, jolly well sleep early the previous night. If you anticipated that you will off your alarm, ask someone to call you. If you know you are going to cut that call, stay over at your friend's place. It depends on how much you want it. Think about it.

I know most of us hate physical trainings, but, why would the coaches want to waste time on PTs? Let me tell you, it's due to some of us being ill-disciplined. The physical level is not up to standard and thus the coaches were forced to do it. So, listen to me. Hit the gym. Find it a chore? Start small. Two days a week? Increase over time. As long as you put in the effort, others can tell. Shouldn't we all grab more time for stunts? (The coaches' time don't come cheap and we don't have much reserve left.)
Try your best and have no regrets.

It's a great feeling to feel belonged. So, put in the effort and blend yourself into the team! If you think you don't feel belonged, take a step back and think of what is wrong. It's more often than not that the problem lies with you.

I'm expecting more laughter, cries, blood, joy and achievements from Genesis.
